    Broken Trust

The Broken Trust investigation uncovered illegal activity tied to a small Texas town with no airport but more than a thousand aircraft registered to two P.O. boxes. The reporting sparked a federal investigation, led to multiple indictments and was credited with a steep drop in drug-smuggling flights into the United States from South America. It also was cited in the reasoning behind new federal legislation that closed FAA loopholes that enabled anonymous aircraft registrations. Broken Trust earned a national Emmy nomination and a regional Murrow Award.

  • Unlicensed and Unchecked

Unlicensed and Unchecked exposed how unregulated Texas boarding homes became breeding grounds for abuse, neglect and exploitation. Our reporting uncovered systemic failures that left vulnerable residents living in dangerous, often degrading conditions — with no meaningful state oversight to stop it. The series prompted reforms and helped drive changes in Texas law aimed at protecting elderly, disabled and mentally ill Texans from predatory operators.

    Dark Roads

My ongoing trucking investigation exposes how unsafe trucking companies exploit weak federal oversight, putting dangerous trucks and unqualified drivers on America’s roads. The reporting has brought new attention to systemic failures in federal regulation and revealed hidden networks that continue to endanger drivers and families across the country.

    Dirty Deeds

Dirty Deeds uncovered how thieves manipulated property records to steal homes and land from rightful owners — forging deeds, exploiting loopholes and targeting vulnerable families. The series exposed how easily criminals could take someone’s house with a single fraudulent filing. The reporting raised public awareness of deed fraud and led to changes in state law.

    Disabled in Danger

This multiyear investigation exposed widespread abuse, neglect and exploitation of intellectually disabled adults in group homes. The reporting led to new state laws requiring stronger background checks, banning caretakers from being life insurance beneficiaries and preventing caregivers with histories of abuse or neglect from working with disabled Texans.

    No Way Out

No Way Out is an in-depth investigation, produced in partnership with The Marshall Project, that exposed how COVID-19 swept through the Texas prison system. The series revealed how overcrowding, poor conditions and inconsistent safety measures left incarcerated people and staff with little protection. It uncovered major gaps in the state’s tracking of cases and deaths, documented the human toll inside dozens of units and highlighted the lack of transparency from prison officials as the virus spread.

    Dallas Police Ambush

After a hard-fought open-records battle, WFAA-TV became the first newsroom in the nation to obtain the body camera footage, dash-cam video and audio recordings from the July 7, 2016, ambush that killed five police officers in Dallas. Using those materials, we produced the most complete public accounting — in any broadcast format — of what unfolded that night.
